RegCure Review

by Brett Greenberg

Brett Greenberg
RegCure is a Windows registry cleaner designed by Paretologic Inc. It is among the most popular registry cleaners on the market with over 60 million users. In addition to repairing and optimizing the registry, RegCure has features designed to help speed up computers and make them run more efficiently.

Compatibility: RegCure runs on Windows 98, 2000, ME, NT, XP, Vista, and Windows 7

------------------------------

Our RegCure review looks at the various features, its ease of use, and how well RegCure was able to clean up and optimize our test PC.

There certainly is no shortage of registry cleaners on the market, and RegCure happens to be one of the most popular. But is it truly the best one? But does it work? Is RegCure safe to use?

So we decided to test the industry-leading software, RegCure by ParetoLogic (homepage), to see whether the results lived up to the claims.

We started off by downloading and installing the free trial version of the program on our test PC, which had been running into frequent ‘Blue Screen’ crashes when running certain programs. Our test system took just over 4 minutes to boot up and tended to stall when running more than one program at a time.

RegCure Review - Putting It To The Test

We began our battery of tests by turning off our computer then restarting it to ensure we had a clean start and as few programs interfering as possible. On RegCure’s first run, the scan report indicated 614 errors, not the most we had ever seen but quite a few nonetheless. We decided to run it 2 more times to gauge the program’s consistency as some lower quality registry cleaners will give wildly different error counts between scans. Our second run reported 614 errors again, and the third came in it 615 errors; indicating that the scanning process is fairly accurate (a difference of one or two errors is normal).

The second step was to use RegCure’s auto-backup feature to create a restore point in the event that, however unlikely, something goes awry during the repair process. This would allow us to easily return our entire computer to the state it was in before the scan, if we needed to. When repairing corrupt registry entries, even when done with a reputable piece of software, it is always a good idea to have a backup.

We registered the full version of RegCure and clicked the repair button to let the program do its work. The repair process took just under 2 minutes and the report indicated that all errors had been fixed.

We also took this opportunity to disable various unnecessary programs from starting automatically when our computer is booted up. This was accomplished using RegCure’s built-in Startup Manager. These programs can be a huge resource hog that most people aren’t even aware of as they run quietly in the background, leeching processing and memory power.

We then rebooted our PC and eagerly awaited what results, if any, we would observe.

RegCure Review – Test Results

Our computer took exactly 2 minutes and 35 seconds to boot up, which is more than any of us had expected. This was a welcome improvement as the long startup time was easily one of the most frustrating parts of using this PC.

We continued carefully observing the results as we used the computer over the following 2 days. I would be lying if I said I could suddenly run as many programs as I wanted without a hitch, but there was a noticeable, if subtle improvement. It is somewhat hard to describe, but things just feel “smoother” and less “glitchy”. And as of writing this we have yet to experience another blue screen crash.

Overall, I would say that RegCure accomplished what we had expected of it. It didn’t turn our PC into a super-computer, but it certainly felt like it was more responsive and less error-prone. Kind of like a car after a tune-up.

Although this software isn’t free, the one-time price is hardly unreasonable considering the hours of frustration it can potentially save; not to mention the possibility of avoiding a costly and inconvenient trip to the repair shop for likely similar results. Paretologic also offers a complete satisfaction guarantee, for the skeptical among us.

RegCure Review – Shortfalls?

Despite the fact that we were quite satisfied with RegCure’s performance, we found that the support could have been somewhat quicker. When we sent a support ticket about acquiring an additional license for or other computers in the office, it took until the next day for a response.

RegCure also doesn’t come with many extra features, which is not necessarily an issue as it was designed to do one thing and it does that thing very well. Frankly, I feel this is better than if it had dozens of extra features that added little or no real value to the product. I think overall this “lean yet powerful” approach worked in Regcure’s favor.

The important thing is not to expect RegCure or any other registry cleaner to magically make your PC work better than when you bought it. There is no magic bullet when it comes to fixing computer errors, but for what it was designed to do, it does a heck of a job!

RegCure Overall:

Ease of Use: 5 Stars

RegCure has a clean and simple interface and is designed for use by anyone, even people with zero technical abilities. If you can turn on a computer, you should be ok!

Effectiveness: 5 Stars

Our test computer showed noticeable improvement in virtually all area that we tested. The number of errors it reported on each of our scans was consistent, and all errors were fixed with one click.

Customer Service: 4 Stars

We had to wait 24 hrs for our response, so things could be quicker but overall not too bad.

Overall Score: 4.5 Stars

RegCure may not magically fix any and all computer problems that you throw at it, but our tests showed us it did what it what it said it would, no more, no less. Overall, a solid choice for cleaning up and optimizing older computers.
